While shopping for an RCA adapter at Walmart last week, I naturally found myself in the holiday aisle and happened upon some adorable owl printed burlap ribbon. My oldest daughter’s best friend happens to love owls so I went all craft-crazy and grabbed enough stuff to whip up a burlap fall wreath with owls for her (and her mom, who loves to decorate for fall).
I used orange, brown and the owl ribbon plus a wire wreath form.
These wreaths can be as simple or as ornate as you want and can easily be made for a starting price of $10. It’s hard to buy anything for that little…and the satisfaction from making it yourself is worth so much more than $10! I actually have one I made for myself that is in desperate need of a redo since it was my first attempt. I didn’t realize how chintzy it looked until I began to make this owl wreath for my friend.
But the best part of these DIY burlap wreaths is that you can redo them… lickity split! They don’t take long and are easily fixable if something goes awry…like a toddler getting her grubby hands on them…ahem.
Anyway, here is a link to a DIY burlap wreath tutorial if you want to make one. I attempted to photograph the stages of my owl wreath in effort to do my own tutorial (since I couldn’t find anyone else’s tutorial showing how to use 2 colors of burlap plus 1 decorative ribbon) but it was pure anarchy around here and it’s amazing I pulled this thing off at all. {Holy run-on sentence, Batman.}
I seriously redid this wreath like 14 times because I kept thinking there had to be a better way. This pattern used almost twice as much burlap as one with one color burlap plus a decorative ribbon or two and I was determined to solve that problem.
I failed.
But it’s cool. Burlap is cheap (especially at Wally World) and I really just wanted to make a fun family wreath for our friends because they help us out a lot. Our daughters have been bffs since they were a few months old in the same daycare and us moms and dads just clicked. It’s awesome that they live right down the street and have truly become extended family. (We have an extended aunt down the street too, who has benefited from pillow inserts….)
I might…might…have the patience to do another similar wreath in the future with an attempt at an actual tutorial but until then, let me simply be your inspiration to craft away this weekend and make something fun for yourself, or a friend.
Happy Early Fall Y’all!
This turned out SO cute, Kara! Thank you so much for including a link to our burlap wreath tutorial for your readers.
